The Global Degree is a project of Bard College and of the Global Higher Education Alliance for the 21st Century (GHEA21). The program highlights that a rigorous liberal education and student achievement is possible everywhere and extends Bard’s legacy of providing pathways to rigorous and rewarding undergraduate study to students fleeing major global crises and conflicts. Over the past 90 years, Bard has made a home for students of extraordinary talent for whom the door to higher education was otherwise closed.

About Bard College

  • Bard College, founded in 1860, seeks to inspire curiosity and a love of learning. The undergraduate curriculum addresses central, enduring questions facing succeeding generations of students. Bard’s approach to learning focuses on the individual, primarily through small group seminars structured to encourage thoughtful, critical discourse in an inclusive environment.

Since 2001, Bard has extended liberal arts and sciences education to communities where it was previously underdeveloped, inaccessible, or absent. Bard has partnered with public school systems to establish 10 Early Colleges, which allow students in low-income communities to earn an AA degree along with their high school diploma, and has created groundbreaking opportunities for students in American prisons to pursue the same higher education as offered on Bard’s main campus.
